Check Out This Deck !!
March 29, 2019
This customer contacted us during an emergency with a falling deck that has separated from the home. Upon inspection, we found that the ledger board was held to the home by only a few 6d nails !!! Our crews immediately built a temporary brace to support the underside of the deck, along with blocking off any hazards that were present. We could not believe how this deck didn't fall to the ground, or even worse if it had anyone standing on it as it fell...
We removed and hauled away the old deck and even removed the old footings that it sat on. Here at Scott's Exterior Maintenace, we take pride in building our decks to not only meet customers' satisfaction but also for the durability and safety of the homeowner. Since the deck was falling apart due to using the wrong material, our crews along with the homeowner did not want to take any chances with reusing any old material. We worked closely with the homeowner to get the size and material that they wanted per their budget.
After the material was purchased, work began by setting new footings and support posts for the new deck to sit on. New treated lumber was used on this deck build along with decking "Screws" instead of nails.... After we installed the new support beam, we started to lay out the new ledger board, joists, and blocking. As we got everything framed up, you can see the deck start coming to life and taking shape. Installing the new deck boards and railing, we knew the project was getting close to the end, but the attention to detail was our priority during the final steps.
When the job was done and said, the homeowner was very happy with the finished deck and the time frame it took to complete. At Scott's Exterior Maintenance, we were challenged by the hazards of the falling deck, but customer and employee safety is the number one concern.
